Prof.Tan,our nephrologist and professor of medicine, said something today that made me wish that he will be the next dean. He said,
"There is no use being the first centre to do successful renal transplant surgery if there will not be a continuous programme of cadaveric donations and transplant surgery."
"Our country has one of the lowest rate of cadaveric organ transplant (almost non-existent). Most of cadaveric organs are harvested from fatal road traffic accident victims. Our country like ours which have one of the highest accident death rates in the world have a almost non-existing cadaveric organ donation programme is quite a pity. Long way to vision 2020."

My condolences to Pak Lah and family of Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood. The beloved wife of our Prime Minister passed away this morning (20 Oct 2005) at the age of 64, after battling with breast cancer for almost four years.
Let's not remember her death as a defeat but the end of a courageous battle against the cancer. When she declared herself as a cancer champ, she has overcome it.
May this not weaken Pak Lah but strengthen to do the right thing for this country, knowing that lives are fragile and meaningless without the right priorities and values.
I got asked this question when my colleague found out that I was fasting today.
"No, cause I might buka-puasa with un-halal food, haha" I answered.
I bersahur with peanut butter sandwich with Nescafe at five something in the morning. No problem waking up. And then no food and no fluids. Fortunately, it was easy the entire day and I did not even rest. Ward work, ward rounds, the OT, neurology class and it's buka puasa time already.
It is not as difficult as it seemed. A big thank you to Emma for the encouragement. It is a good experience, and kind of healthy too.
Did I or did I not? Begin my medical school with the end in mind?
Did I imagine myself as a top clinician while I was packing my bags for Kuala Lumpur? Or was I just relieved that I have made the most of my Form 6 days, and let the complacency set in?
Hmmm...did I or did I not?
Anyway, like it or not, the end is getting nearer now. Less than 20 weeks till the big exams.
What kind of 'end' do I want?
